Food preparation, consumption, or anything food-related activity at home also changed when the pandemic hit us. From the usual home-cooked meals, we immediately turn to instant food, and ready-to-eat fast food ordered online and delivered at our doorstep, while parents transitioned to working from home, and the children attended home-based virtual classes.

4 Food-Related Things Your Family Can Enjoy Doing At Home

In many parts of the world, children are staying home from school to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus disease. While this is a critical way to practice physical distancing, it can be disruptive to daily life, especially for children. If you’re a parent who works in the food industry, help your children understand what is happening so they have an idea of what will be the new normal for everyone. Here are some food-related tips to help you, your family, and your children cope with this “new normal” until the virus is under control.

1) Play Online Role-Playing (Simulation) Games With Your Kids

Open Restaurant is an online simulation game where you need to manage customers, their orders, service, and achieve a certain amount to proceed to the next level.

There are a lot of food-related online games, like Open Restaurant, to help children get an idea of the culinary arts, and how challenging it is to open and manage a restaurant. If your child loves animals, Penguin Café might be a good simulation game for him/her to play.

2) Enjoy Online Games That Will Give You Nostalgia

Fruit Adventure is your next adventure game that is of pure nostalgia.

If you want to have a “me-time” after a hard day’s work, or after home-schooling the kids, these games are also quite fun and can give you nostalgia. If you love playing the famous Family Computer game, Super Mario Bros., one of our favorite games Fruit Adventure can also be on your list. Other old school games like Airport Rush can send you back to your childhood, not to mention Fruit Snakes, similar to your all-time must-play snake game on your old cellphone.

There are a few holiday-related games, too, like Gingerman Rescue, Christmas Candy, and more.

Use cooking to raise smart kids.

They always say that if you want your children to eat the food, you let them help you prepare the food. To help you get familiarized with cooking at home, most especially converting recipe ingredients and their measurements, this easy-to-use Conversion Calculator can assist you. If you get boggled between Imperial and Metric System of measurements, this will become very handy for your cooking.

Cooking can help young kids learn and practice some basic math concepts and build language skills. And preparing meals with you can help build their self-confidence and lay the foundation for healthy eating habits. It may take a little flexibility and some simple prep work. The kitchen can be a place to nurture your child both mentally and physically.

The COVID-19 pandemic affected the global food industry as governments closed down restaurants and bars to slow the spread of the virus. Across the world, restaurants’ daily traffic dropped compared to the same period in 2019. Closures of restaurants caused a ripple effect among related industries such as food production, liquor, wine, and beer production, food and beverage shipping, fishing, and farming. AS mentioned early, food-related movements at home also were affected by this.

On a positive note, let us appreciate the opportunity this difficult time had given us and our family. Learning together like cooking can be a good factor to spend more time together amidst the pandemic. Enjoying the company of the family members while playing online games available on the Internet can have some benefits for both personal and as a whole family. Starting healthy eating habits and lifestyle can also be one of the many things you can start doing together or solo just to be ready to start afresh once this pandemic is paving a new normal to our family or to the community.
